Technology can be a finicky thing, especially if it is not getting the proper care that it needs. Of course, sometimes it is difficult to know what the technology needs to keep it running. Just as your take care of yourself or your pet to ensure their health, there are a number of things that you should be frequently doing and checking to make sure that your computer stays healthy.
- Keep it cool. Computers that overheat can run slowly or even crash. Make sure your computer stays in an area that has plenty of airflow – especially in the back of the computer.
- Restart your computer at least weekly. Restarting your computer can help it run more efficiently by clearing temporary files and restarting the hardware and processes. Get into the habit of restarting your computer every Friday before you leave work for the week.
- Check weekly for Windows updates. Windows often comes out with new updates that patch small problems with their software. Sometimes you won’t notice the issues, but there are many times when updating your system will cause your computer to work more easily and efficiently. In order to check for windows updates, you can go to Start -> Settings -> Update & Security and install the latest update. A good time to check for updates would be when you go to lunch, as some updates can be lengthy timewise.
- Back it up. While there are many best practices to keep your computer healthy, sometimes things happen that are out of your control. To avoid a loss of saved information, as well as a major headache, be sure to frequently back up your information. The more frequently the better, as anything saved since the last backup is at risk of being lost. Did you know that backing information up is a service offered by PrydeTech? It’s true!
