Should You Migrate to Office 365?
Even if your company does not use Office 365 for email or otherwise, you’ve surely heard of it and know a little bit about it. Office 365 is one of the biggest platforms for hosting company email. Not only does it host email, but it also supplies a plethora of apps from Word to PowerPoint and beyond. However, if you’re reading this article, you probably already know this, as the purpose of this article is to help you determine whether your company should migrate from your current email provider over to Office 365. Making the move might be right for you if you can agree with the following statements.
When to Switch to Office 365.
You have time to wait.
This shouldn’t be a major issue, as email migrations don’t always take a long time. However, depending on communication, turnover of information, and the size of your company, they could take a while. Expect your email migration to take a couple of weeks on the short side and a few months on the longer end.
You work (or want to work) remotely.
Perhaps the most obvious reason that companies make the switch is that it provides them with online access to most of their tools. With Office 365 comes an entire suite of applications – including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and more. Each of these applications and the documents associated will be accessible online, meaning that you can take your work with you anywhere you want.
You want files to be automatically backed up.
While you should have a good backup system in place already, having a second one never hurts. One of the best things about Office 365 is that it automatically saves your files and provides backups. OneDrive is another application within the suite that can host your files, including pictures and videos if you choose to upload them.
You don’t want to pay for new equipment.
Like all cloud services, a great benefit to Office 365 is that it is entirely online and does not require in-house hardware for hosting. In the past, email and application servers would have to be kept on-site, be replaced twice a decade, and have maintenance in between. Clearly, this is not only monetarily costly, but also time costly, and can be a major pain. With Office 365, you need not worry about physical in-house servers!
Long Story Short.
It would be difficult to list all of the benefits that Office 365 provides, especially since it provides different benefits to different people. These are just a few of the many things you can look forward to if you decide to migrate over.
