Have you been looking forward to the prospect of having 5G internet at home? Chances are you may have thought about this if you work from home. Good news - your wait may finally be over. As of today, T-Mobile is beginning to roll out its 5G home internet service. According to the network, 30 million homes are now eligible for the service. At $60 per month, the service, which averages speeds of 100Mbps, comes with no data caps, hardware rental fees, or annual contracts. Customers of the 5G service will also need to self-install their equipment.
A word of caution to those considering making the switch - customers are subject to slowdowns during times of network congestions. While this may not be an issue for customers in rural areas, , it may be a major deterrent for those living in densely populated areas.
Discussion of 5G in homes by T-Mobile began in 2019 during their case to acquire Sprint. This means that customers wanting 5G from T-Mobile have been waiting up to 2 years for this day to come. Along with 5G home internet service, T-Mobile has made a few other 5G announcements. These announcements include a free Samsung Galaxy A32 5G phone for those wanting to trade in a device, and a new Unlimited 5G "trade-up" plan.
